We’re invited to retreat, tend to what has been causing aches and pain, and envision a future that protects our vulnerabilities while allowing us to safely grow in our own time. This is a slow moon, one that can be paced to match your own timing and needs, but you have to be the one to voice those needs confidently and be open to receive what you’re asking for.

Before you continue, read January 2025’s Lunar Musings: Full Moon in Cancer. There might be something there for you to reflect on.
When the Moon is in Cancer, it is at home.
It spends most of its time helping to create new visions and bringing fulfillment within other spaces, but twice a year, it’s powerful intentions are aimed towards itself. If you consider how the Moon represents the mother, this is pretty on par for the lives we tend to lead. We make sure everyone is good before we check on ourselves and inquire about what we need to keep going. The more we ignore and neglect those needs, the more difficult it becomes to care for others with enough energy and without resentment forming where there should be compassion. There has to be balance, and this Moon is where we are able to slow down and turn to intentionally mothering ourselves, so that we can continue to support, uplift, and mend that which we love and care for. This is where we get to feel the strength and significance of that soothing healing energy for the places and spaces in our personal lives that need it most. Whether you are envisioning incorporating more self-care into your life, or opening up to allow others to pour into you, this Moon is in full support of those intentions.
With this Moon being conjunct an exalted Jupiter in Cancer, there is a feeling of unhindered expansion infused into this energy. And although it is exalted, that doesn’t mean the outcome of this conjunction will feel good. Jupiter expands no matter where its at or what it touches, and in this sign it is joyfully expanding the emotions, feelings of security and safety (or the lack thereof), maternal and/or ancestral patterns, childhood emotional neglect, and the emotional barricades that block us from deeply tapping into our intuitive body.
So while yes, this Moon can and will gleefully fulfill any longing to truly be felt, nurtured, held, seen by yourself or others, it may very well do so by first expanding those areas of your experience—whether internal or external—that are misaligned to receiving that. If you’ve been holding back grief because you feel like you have no one to hold that space for you, you might find that feeling expanding more and more until you take proactive action to acquire what you need to release safely and at your own pace.
If you tend to emotionally over give or invest in others with little to no reciprocation, that will begin to become alarmingly clear as your own emotional reserves begin to deplete. Or for those of you who are emotionally defensive, you may find yourself snapping at the wrong place, time, or person, leaving you with a reality check that something deeply held within needs to be tenderly, patiently examined and released. The reason for this emotional engorgement is so that we can see where there are blockages and leaks within the emotional bodies. This is even true for those who have a difficult time receiving, as this moon can expand the genuine care that is coming into your life. Where are you not accepting that you deserve this in your life?
We have an assist from Mars in Virgo, a transit that is currently aiding our ability to eliminate what isn't working to maintain our personal and collective systems, while giving us the drive to initiate the habits, rituals, practices, and routines that will. As Mars is currently co-present with the south node, we are already in a space of taking inventory of what works and what doesn’t. There are absolutely pieces of our past—whether it be from this lifetime, previous ones, or even the lives of those who came before us—that are beneficial for us to take forward into a new way of living. Practical, mundane everyday tools and skills that will support our healing and growth in a way that is simple to incorporate into our lives, if we can find the strength to let go of what is no longer serving our highest and greatest good.
The energies of this Mars transit and this Moon are deeply feminine, meaning the action is more internal, more passive in nature. The feminine creates from a space of profound knowing. Its action is just as powerful as its masculine counterpart, but on the surface it may not look that way. It is only because where the masculine pushes, the feminine flows with grace and ease. The feminine feels into the current of life and takes advantage of it, because it has all of life to sustain and its energetic resources are precious to maintaining the fruit of its labor. Water and Earth are both extremely powerful feminine elements, often mistaken for more gentle forces due to their perceived softness and slowness. But the way they can both completely change a landscape within seconds cannot be denied. Even if it feels like it's taking a long time, you are making progress that is more than surface level and will last far beyond what would have happened if you had forced a quicker outcome.
Finally, we have the tension of the square to Saturn and Neptune in Aries influencing our frustrations and need for decisive action. This aspect is already beginning to separate, but it is still felt. This is where we may struggle to receive emotional support because our personal autonomy is still taking shape and we may not want anyone touching those spaces that still feel too green. Collectively, we are in a space that is still too brand new, still too unknown and uncertain. We don’t know if this new baby—that honestly feels premature in nature—will survive its first moments, hours, days outside of the mystical womb we’ve been conjuring it up in. And as a mother, when your creation is in such a vulnerable state, you will turn to hypervigilance and do anything to protect it, possibly perceiving genuine offers of support as threats not only to your creation but to your ability to keep it alive
This is where the importance of self-awareness and tribal support is crucial, because the honest truth is that you can't do it all on your own. You can't be everything for everyone, not even for yourself. You need those who can pour into you, give you time to breathe out, and honor that fact that you are also a body, mind, and soul who needs nurturing. No matter what the narrative has been for you, you deserve to be held and have your tears gently wiped from your cheek, too. You deserve to have a warm meal prepared for you. You deserve to soak up the safety and complete relaxation of someone trustworthy stepping in and saying “It’s okay to take a break. I’m here, and I got you.” And it's more than okay to require that these things are a regular part of your life, because we never stop having these needs no matter our age or how successful we may be by society’s standards.
No matter how you are tapping into this new moon energy, be prepared to feel the fullness of your emotional needs and express them, even if it's a little at a time. Even if it comes through snappy and you have to take a moment to regroup to come back with an apology and a more clearly—to the best of your ability—communicated desire for support and care. Lean into the discomfort so that you can feel with more clarity where there is a deeper need for warmth and compassion in your inner and outer worlds.
